Perthshire Chawan
This collection of work was inspired by family holidays combined with classic Japanese pottery. The materials I collected are from Aberfeldy and Dunkeld in Perthshire, Scotland. The glaze mixture contains slate, natural quartz, clay, seaweed and ash from a wood burner from the local area. While spending time with my girlfriend’s family during the holiday, the vast amount tea which was consumed inspired me to look into traditional Chawan forms and from there, I developed a range of naturally glazed Chawan-ware. Taking this inspiration further, I challenged myself by creating larger showpieces following the same theme.
This work was showcased at New Designers: One Year In.
